I painted this picture a long time ago, and the nature of art is that it can mean to the viewer whatever that person brings to it. But to me, this is what it means: The Poinsettia has become a symbol of Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of Christ. Its red bracts stand for the blood He shed to pay for our sins, and the green of its leaves stands for the new life He gives us when we believe in Him. A chrysalis hangs attached to the plant, and as we know, the caterpillar that disappeared into the chrysalis eventually emerged as a butterfly, a new creation. The baby symbolizes the birth of Jesus, and it also symbolizes that because of Him, we are reborn.
